The Equipoise Fund creates and supports processes and initiatives based on systemic change. We engage in creative problem solving and develop innovative programs that propel communities toward social equity and social justice. Our current initiatives include:
The Atta Girl Awards
The Equipoise Fund created the Atta Girls in the spirit of encouraging Wyoming women who inspire us. We hope that by highlighting the work of these wonderful women, they will in turn inspire many other women and men across Wyoming. Mickey Babcock, Founder and President of the Equipoise Fund, says the Atta Girl Awards give Wyoming women and girls a “butt-boost” for all the lives they lift.
From our three years of honoring women in the categories of Vision, Voice and Visibility; from our first year of Atta Boy Awards in 2008, honoring those men who support and encourage women; and from our work with our documentary film, Don’t Fence Me In, we’ve learned that it’s the authentic stories that create an immediate connection and have an immeasurable impact upon others.
Our future Atta Girl Awards will build upon our amazing winners to date. We hope to continue honoring remarkable women across the state, whose stories of their distinct contributions to their communities mean so much to so many.

Our Documentary Film: Don't Fence Me In
In 2008 filmmakers Bonnie Kreps and Charlie Craighead completed a film project chronicling the lives of women across Wyoming. 13 women and girls shared their stories of sustaining families, ranches, industries and communities, and of living in and on the broad Wyoming landscape. Since then the film has been screened in libraries, schools and community centers and at the Smithsonian in celebration of Women’s History Month in March 2009. Womentum
Comprised of inspired women in Jackson, Wyoming, who believe in “action philanthropy,” this enthusiastic and talented group works through a mentoring program designed to broaden the impact that women have on other women’s lives.
Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus
The bipartisan Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus is building equality in the Equality State, where women hold less than a quarter of state-elected positions. The Caucus focuses on four priorities: regular gatherings, a Speaker’s Bureau, candidate development and an Intern/Aide Program. To achieve these goals, members of the Caucus have participated in gatherings and workshops as well as meeting with Wyoming’s First Lady, Nancy Freudenthal, at the Governors Mansion. To familiarize women with the Wyoming government’s legislative and executive branches and help strengthen women’s leadership at all levels of community and public service, the Caucus hosts the annual Leap into Leadership event for Wyoming women at the State Legislature in February.
